The William J. Cleary Cup

After a 2-1 win over RPI on Saturday night, Colgate finished the ECACHL regular season in a tie for first place with Dartmouth College. So the ___ Raiders share the regular season league title with the Big Green. This is Dartmouth's first Cleary Cup in 25 years, and Colgate's second in three years. Way to go, 'Gate.

As a result of the tiebreakers, Dartmouth gets the #1 seed for the ECAC tournament. The top four seeds get a first-round bye, then will host the winners of the 5-12 first round series. So, that means #2 seed Colgate gets next weekend off, then on March 11-13 they will host the third-highest seed emerging from the first round (barring upsets, that's likely to be RPI) . . .

Between 1673 and 1713 colonists tried to establish a settlement in Squakheag, now called Northfield, three times. It was abandoned and destroyed by French and Indian troops twice. Finally in 1713 the settlement became permanent and was incorporated as the town of Northfield in 1723. The attacks continued, however, until the conclusion of the French and Indian Wars in 1763. Northfield is the only Massachusetts town to border both Vermont and New Hampshire. Dwight L. Moody founded the Northfield Seminary for Young Ladies in 1879, and the Mount Hermon School for Boys in 1881. These two schools merged in 1971 to become the coed Northfield Mount Hermon.

Go-To Guy

Inside College Hockey's latest feature on Hobey Baker candidates lists Colgate's Tyler Burton as "On The Radar". It would be great to see him make a little noise in the voting. And, since he's only a sophomore, he's still got two more years to take a run at it . . .

27th in the PairWise

With Harvard's loss to BU in the Beanpot last night, Colgate's PairWise Ranking slipped one more spot to 27th. Ugh.

Cornell 3, Colgate 2

OK, so I guess Cornell might be better than us.

Pretty good game Saturday night, but I think Cornell pretty clearly outplayed us. Their forecheck was great, and our guys never really seemed to get comfortable. Two beautiful goals by Kyle Wilson, though - he is a great scorer.

Cornell takes over first place in the ECACHL. But perhaps more importantly, that drops our PWR to 26 - one spot below Holy Cross, and way out of contention for an at-large bid to the NCAAs. It's becoming pretty clear that the only way we're going to make the NCAA tourney this year is by winning the ECACHL tournament - something Colgate hasn't done since 1990.

Fun story from the Syracuse paper about Cornell forgetting to pack their unis for the trip to Hamilton . . .

Cornell 4, Colgate 1

Drat.

Cornell takes the first game of the home-and-home, and draws within one point of Colgate in the ECACHL standings. Here's the game story.

Shabby's brief synopsis: "We got smoked".

That makes tonight's game even bigger . . .
